I do have one film that I made in 2018 based on my wife’s experiences with sexual assault.

Telus Originals | "Piita Aapasskaan"

Having grown up skateboarding with Kyle Young Pine in Okotoks Alberta, “Piita Aapasskaan” started as a documentary to showcase Brock Davis Mitchell’s curiosity around Kyle’s progression in Fancy Feather Dancing. What came from that was a deeper connection and more meaningful story about Kyle’s recovery journey through addiction and personal growth.

Kyle’s upbringing was distanced from his family’s Blackfoot customs and traditions. Skateboarding saved him from the generational traumas he faced as a child, but it was in Fancy Feather Dancing where he found his truest self.

This documentary speaks to the systemic generational trauma

Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra | Your Phil. Your Music.

This is project brought voice to the community, versus from the organization. Celebrating the vibrant stories of Calgarians that intertwine when they sit down in the theatre.

The pitch was that, the value of live music/ performance is that it is shared. The audience moves and breaths together as the music sweeps through the theatre. We interviewed 4 inspiring people from Calgary that had never experienced the Calgary Philharmonic before, to get a sense of what community means to them. Illustrating that each of the hundreds of audience members that take in this music together, individually arrive with their own stories and backgrounds but form a new collective in this shared experience.

Veterans Walkway | Explore the Stories

This film for the newly announced Veterans Walkway experience in Calgary helped to tell the story of Calgary families throughout World War 1. Showing the sacrifice that our community made, like many others, on the battlefields and here at home.

This expansive film took the care and collaboration from all departments to ensure historical authenticity, while retaining an emotional grounding that connects with new viewers.

Reuben and the Dark | Bow and Arrow

This narrative music video project for Reuben and the Dark follows the story of a young boy and his father as they try to cope with the loss of a loved one.

Unable to use dialogue, due to the nature of being a music video; we used large set pieces, and visual metaphor to communicate our personal themes of grief, forgiveness, and healing.

Working extensively with our talent, we were able to draw out authentic moments between them as well as the inner turmoil they were facing on their individual journeys.

Separated by centuries, two women are faced with similar struggles within social expectations and love.

One, living with her husband in the late 1800’s, the other is confined within the ‘female gaze’ of the modern era. Both of which are trying to navigate their self identity as women through emotional manipulation and misogyny that parallels these two periods in time.

Love & Other Catastrophes is a music video montage between these two stories, illustrating the lack of progression in societal views of women and love.
